If anyone would like to know whether you should build your own mortar-bed shower, I'd be happy to give you advice. And that advice would be an emphatic *"Don't!"*
3368But the shower is now completed. I began demolition in Jan 03, and it became operational last week. It does look great, but that was a lot of time to spend on one thing. Biggest mistake? Using 3/4" glass tiles of varying thicknesses -- which made grouting an absolute nightmare. Grouting averaged 45 minutes per square foot. But once begun -- in for a penny in for pound. Consider the lessoned learned.
