Keepin' It Cool

*Invaders from Mars?!* Naw, it's just the new air conditioning.

Our built-in-1939 house does not have central a/c. We've been using window units (I like to call it zoned a/c), but I wouldn't call that a good solution. They do the job, for the most part -- but they're noisy, block out needed light, and leave some rooms always hot. (I have stick my face in front of a fan before & during shaving so I can use my electric shaver.)

But I wasn't about to put an a/c system in the house that has large boxy ducting. That would piss off the house, and you don't want to do that. So we're going with a 'high-velocity' system. That means small ducts that go inside the existing walls. Here's a view of the ducts going into the kitchen:

But after they're put in place and the molding is installed, it's pretty subtle. They've finished in our bedroom, the vent is in the ceiling on the upper right.

So that's what's going on now. Once it's completed, we'll have to do some patching & painting. Then I can finish up the kitchen.
