Monster Friday: Dr Jeckle and Mr Hyde
Now who would represent that freshman English word dichotomy more than Dr Jeckle and Mr Hyde (ex-wives excepted)? A good Victorian subtitle might be "Wherein the Doctor Made Himself the Monster, Thus Reducing the Cast By One."
And for all the monster richness expressed by Mr Hyde (no advanced degree for him, nosiree), this story is often boiled down to psychology. But I will point out the fact that
his potion causes rapid growth of facial hair, dental unfortunateness, and a general dishevelment of demeanor. None of which is, at least in my experience, psychological.
I love the Hammer movie twist on this story - Dr Jeckle and Sister Hyde. It's exactly what you'd think it would be - including the boobs.
This model is the only one I have vivid memories of making -- mainly because I kept messing it up. If I might draw your attention to the placement of his arms. Is he peering into the beaker with his left hand ready just in case his neck becomes unruly? And the stool looks like something pulled out of a clown car.
And my friends, this marks the end of Monster Friday - for I have run out of monsters. It's been great fun -- and a good excuse to clean the thirty-some-odd years of dust off of the models. Hope you've enjoyed it!
