Back from Yellowstone
We're back from our travels in Wyoming. We went to Yellowstone, flying in & out of Jackson or Jackson Hole (not quite sure which). Everything went well, no particular crises arose. The RV thing was, uh, an experience -- one which I shall detail in a few days.
One of the qualities of Yellowstone is that it's so big and has such a breadth of activities within it, you can visit twice and have two very different trips. New things this time around:
- Heart Lake, Mt Sheridan, and Heart Lake geyser basin
- Shoshone Lake and Shoshone geyser basin
- the cowboy cookout via horseback ride (via stagecoach previously)
- Specimen Ridge petrified wood area
- all new lodging because we stayed in campsites
- and a minimum of the bad and overpriced Xanterra food
And even with the places we re-visited, things in Yellowstone don't necessarily stay the same.
- the trees in areas burned in the '88 fires were much taller
- much of Mammoth Hot Springs had run dry
- the ground of the Back Basin in Norris was cool enough to walk on this time around
I will post photos and write-ups beginning shortly -- so check back soon!
