Great read about Cahokia. A must before you visit.

The Moundbuilders: Ancient Peoples of Eastern North America by George R. Milner
A bit too technical for me, but it does give a good overall history of all the mound building cultures.

Nice coffee-table book about mound builders in Ohio. Good illustrations and photographs.
