Hell Yeah

With the constantly straight cliffs of Fiftymile Mountain to the west and the undulating sandstone of Escalante canyons in the east, this campsite puts you right in the middle of this solitary landscape. It's primitive, for sure. But when we were here, we saw a total of three lights that were not stars: 1) lights from a campsite a couple of miles away, 2) a campsite in the Straight Cliffs, 3) the blinking aircraft light atop Navajo Mountain. The site itself sits on top of a rise that gives you a good panorama. We didn't make it to nearby Sunset Arch, but we will the next time. If you want to chat with your camp neighbors, this is not for you. But if you want to experience the sublime isolation this part of the country offers, you should spend a night here.
