Yellowstone 09 Itinerary
Pretty solid itinerary, not much I would change. When we were in YNP, the road between Madison and Norris was closed, so I subbed Canyon for Madison. It made for a bit more driving, but it wasn't detrimental. Since we've been there before, I could have done without a couple of days of the drive-and-look and put in a couple of more hikes. The rainy weather made days 5-7 drag a bit, but rain tends to do that.
Shoshone Geyser Basin was the highlight for me - I just loved having the whole thing to ourselves. I know it's hokey, but I just love that cowboy cookout -- and it's the best way to get good food out of Xanterra and the Paradise Valley setting is unsurpassed in its intimate grandeur. And ending at Pebble Creek added just the right touch of solitude and quiet to the trip's conclusion.
Note: We did this trip in a rented RV. Writeup of that to come.
