Geology Video - Washington DC

Earlier this summer I took a couple of geology field courses from NVCC, the Billy Goat Trail and the Bedrock of D.C. Instead of writing papers, I made a video. It's my first stab at a documentary-ish video, and as it is it's a bit of a dogs breakfast. I'd like the animations, for instance, to all have the same look and feel. But 'good-enough and done' is better than 'perfect but still working on it.' It's been my experience that it's difficult to see a video still inside somebody else's head.

So I know what you're asking, "Greg, why are you taking geology classes?" Two reasons. 1) Geology has piqued my interest. We've been out to southern Utah enough times for me to start asking questions. And even though DC is not the Colorado Plateau, there's plenty of history to be had here. 2) The NVCC classes are a bargain. For about a C-note, you get a full day tour with an expert -- transportation included. I highly recommend taking a field course if you want to find out about the DC metro area beyond the Capitol and the White House.

And a particular hat-tip to Callan Bentley. Callan was the personable and knowledgeable instructor for the classes and he has a pretty kick-ass website that he updates much more regularly that I do here. Take a look at the field courses he teaches and I hope to see you on one in the future.
